Education Provision

How do I find out who the allocated Virtual School Education Support Officer is for a Nottingham City child looked after?

The name of the allocated Education Support Officer for a child looked after is stated on the main page of the child’s ePEP record below the Nottingham City logo next to ‘Virtual School Contact’.

What Nottingham based alternative education provisions can the Virtual School recommend?

Nottingham City Council’s accredited alternative education provider directory can be found here: Ap Nottingham  this directory includes a list of approved alternative provision settings in Nottingham.

What education provision is there for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Nottingham who are new to English?

NEST is a specialist educational provision for asylum seeker and refugee young people, aged 15-19 years who are new to English. Further information about NEST can be found here: NEST – Home (schooljotter2.com)

How can I request a laptop for a child looked after?

If a Nottingham City child looked after requires a laptop to support their education, the child’s social worker should contact the child’s allocated Virtual School Education Support Officer to discuss the request for a laptop for the child.

Who receives Pupil Premium Plus funding?

Will I be able to identify a Pupil Premium Plus payment when it has been transferred to my school from the Virtual School?

Yes, the payment reference number of the payment will include ‘PPP to indicate that it is a Pupil Premium Plus payment. It is not possible to identify which child the payment is for from the payment reference number because no personal identifying details are included in the payment reference number.

Do early years children receive Pupil Premium Plus funding?

If the child is aged 3 or 4 and attends early years education such as nursery or school nursery, the child could be eligible for early years pupil premium funding. It is the responsibility of the child’s social worker to ensure that the education setting has written evidence confirming that the child is in care to enable the education setting to apply for the funding. Is there any financial support that is available to young people who are in Post 16 education?

If the young person attends a mainstream sixth form college or Further Education college, they should be in receipt of the Post 16 Bursary. The bursary is also referred to as the ‘Vulnerable Students Bursary’. It is the responsibility of the young person’s social worker to ensure that the education setting has written evidence confirming that the young person is in care. Electronic PEPs (ePEPs) 

I do not have access to the EPEP System, how can I request access? Access for social care staff

An email should be sent to the Virtual School inbox thevirtualschool@nottinghamcity.gov.uk – on the email subject heading, please state ‘Encrypt: access to ePEP portal/access to child’s ePEP’.

Please provide

–  the child’s full name 

–  date of birth or their Liquid logic ID number

–  details of your role

–  your contact details – phone number, email address

–  the name of your social care team

I do not have access to the EPEP System, how can I request access? Access for Designated Teachers for Children Looked After

An email should be sent to the Virtual School inbox thevirtualschool@nottinghamcity.gov.uk – on the email subject heading, please state ‘Encrypt: access to ePEP portal/access to child’s ePEP’.

– details of your role

How can I delegate access to a child’s ePEP?

For Social Workers:

Temporary access for other social care staff (e.g. Family Support Workers) can only be given by The Virtual School. Please email the Virtual School to request temporary access: thevirtualschool@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

For Designated Teachers:

Designated Teachers can delegate temporary access to another member of staff in school by clicking on EPEP then click on DT Delegation within your Welfare Call account.

I’m not familiar with the EPEP system, and I have not completed an ePEP before. What should I do?

The Virtual School offer training on Electronic PEPs (ePEPs) for early years, statutory school age and post 16 children and young people. This training includes a live demonstration and detailed information on how to use the ePEP system. More information on ePEP training could be found here:

Whose responsibility is it to chair a Personal Education Plan (PEP) meeting?

The completion of a PEP is the joint responsibility of the child’s education setting (e.g. school or college) and the child’s social worker.  Therefore, the PEP can be chaired by either the education setting or by the child’s social worker or family support worker.
